TAKAPUNA COUNCIL
Sir. —The representations made by j the Mayor of .Takapuna in connection ■ with Wednesday's meeting can J>e j classed as typical of his tactics. Ihe I controversv is distasteful but. it is only i right that the public should know the i position. | firstly, although the hour was alter j ]].. - i0 p.m., the dissatisfied councillors j left the meeting solely because they : objected to a member being sworn at. i The Mayor was given the option of withdrawing his remark hut tailed to : do so. | Secondly, the five members who left j could, at. this particular meeting, have fixed the rates at any (igure they desired, They certainly criticised the policy of drift which, among oilier weaknesses, makes no provision in t fie estimates for cleaning the water-mains j or for F/.P.S. activities, provides a reduced amount for maintenance and nothing at all for permanent works ol any kind. _ ' C. V. Hor.voAKK, Councillor.
