THE WINTER SOLSTICE
The sun to-morrow will attain its most northerly declination tor the vear and the shortest day will occur. The solstice, which is used for calendar purposes to indicate the beginning f ?f winter in this hemisphere, actually falls in this country about a fortnignt_ later than the meteorological beginning o winter. For the next three months the sun will move slowly back toward the equator, but its change for the next days will be very small, and it will : >® several weeks before the lengthening o the days becomes noticeable.
