ELLERSLIE WORK

SMART FOUR FURLONGS

CALULA BOY AND RARA AVIS

LAST SURVEY AN IMPROVER

BY ARCHER Several candidates for the Waipa Racing Club's Winter Meeting were galloped on the No. 1 grass at Ellerslie yesterday. They were Bisquit, British Talent, Rara Avis and Bronze Emerald and all went satisfactorily. The going was heavy, although quite good for the time of the year. On the grass Bisquit (O'Connor) completed useful work with four furlongs in s.'i l-ss. The racing he had at the Great Northern meeting appears to have been beneficial to Bisquit, who should give n good account of himself in the Orakiiu Hurdles to-morrow. Royal Message (Cleaver) sprinted three furlongs in ti i-r.s. She is in capital order and should he ready early in the new season. British Talent (Gilchrist), after running the first three in I'J l-ss, completed seven furlongs in I,:iii Xo fault can he found with his condition, and he should be dangerous in the Woodstock Stakes to-morrow. British Talent, Paint, Bisquit, Kara Avis and Bronze Kmerald are booked to leave for To Awamutu by float this morning. Paint (Hearn) ran seven furlongs in l.rw> I-5, the first four in oils. It was intended to take Paint to To Awamutu to-day with a view to schooling him over the steeplechase fences before Saturday, but suitable arrangements could not he made. He is in splendid condition after his recent racing. Calula Boy (Gilchrist) appeared to be going stronger than Kara Avis (Messervy) at the end of four furlongs in 50s. It was a smart effort and there is no doubt that Calula Boy is in great heart at present. Kara Avis is also well. Bronze Kmerald (Cleaver) covered four furlongs hi 51 '.'-ss. He took no harm from his trip to Tauranga, where he seemed a little unlucky not to win, and is very fit. Last Survey (Gilchrist) and Radio Call iChallinder) ran four furlongs in .Ms, finishing together. Last Survey is bearing an improved appearance, and Radio ('all has also made some progress lately. Royal Art (Harris) covered four furlongs in 51! :i-ss. lie is a rising three-year-old gelding by Foxlight from Artiste, and has grown a good deal lately, although he is still smallish. Classic (McKinnon) gave a good display over the pony hurdles, fie looks like being a useful jumper, as he has shaped in very promising fashion in his early schooling. Brazilian (McKinnon) and Xorthlander iCleaver) jumped the pony hurdles twice, and they gave a good exhibition for beginners.
