MINE STILL IDLE
THE DOBSON DISPUTE VALUABLE TIME LOST ATTITUDE OF THE MEN fO.C.) GREYMOUTH. Wednesday Rendered idle yesterday at the instigation of the miners because of the alleged refusal of the management to abide by the decision of an independent chairman in a recent dispute over the interpretation of a section of the minimum wage clause, the Dobson mine was idle again to-day. It seems most likely that 110 work will bo done to-morrow. In an interview to-day the president of the Grey Valley (Dobson) Miners' Union, Mr. W. Purdy, said he had nothing to add to the statement issued the previous day. The men had considered the request of the Minister to return to work until a decision was made by the Coal Production Council, but as the dispute had already been settled by the judgment of an independent chairman the men were practically unanimous, as the voting > ri d'" cated, that they would remain idle until the chairman's decision was honoured by the company. ANOTHER DAY LOST HOLD-IT AT BLACKBALL (0.C.) GREYMOUTH, Wednesday Because of a dispute which developed at the Blackball Coal Mines Proprietary mine at Blackball over the time to be allowed for travelling time up the dip alter knock-off time, the mine was idle ■ to-da.v, the men engaged there declining work until the matter in dispute was settled. Following discussions between the parties, an announcement was made this evening that an amicable settlement had been reached and the mine will resume production to-morrow.
