SUCCESSES OF VISITORS

NED WORTHY, WORTHY NEED BY A HAY DOS Due. to a number of successes at: the Auckland Christmas carnival, when they gained 10 wins and 11 places

for L'-'UDI) in stakes, visiting pacers and trotters did remarkably well at Epsom this season. Their winnings totalled iJtioJO, the re,suit u! |s firsts ami 21 plaiings The winnings were a substantial increase over I'M ">8.3 last season and ,1:2810 in KKIB-'(!h Two pacers, Neil Wortli.v and Worthy Need, were the principal winners witli £'.lolo each, hut, whereas Worthy Need gained two lirsts and four places, Ned Worthy won only one race. This was the Auckland Jubilee Trotting Cup, which he won from end to end. holding off the, fast-finishing Hold Venture, who ran him very close. The race evidently got to the bottom of Ned Worthy, who has not been placed since. On the other hand, Worthy Need has raced most consistently since his successful visit to Auckland in December, when he won the St. ; ifliers Handicap and was placed in three other events. He completed a heavy season by winning the C. F. Mark Memorial Handicap at Epsom last month. When he ran second in the Hledisloe Handicap at Christmas, Worthy Need made a mile and a-half track record of ;i.l'J '2-f> Descendants of Axworthy Worthy Need, who a few years ago was only a very moderate performer, started 10 times this season for three wins, five seconds and six thirds. Like Ned Worthy, be is a descendant of Axworthy. Worthy Need is by Frank Worthv, bv Guv Axworthy, sire of four with records " better than 'J.o. by Axworthy, who sired Worthy Hond, sire of Ned Worthy. Hoth Worthy Bond and Frank Worthy did service at the Mardella Stud. L. F. Berkett won C'tso with Expensive Lady, who scored two firsts and three thirds, l"2tn with I'opeye for one win, and t:tlo with the consistent Mongolian, who failed to win, but earned six placing*. Expensive Lady was one of the most, improved trotters in her class, and, as the result of her success last month, will require to do her future racing in the South, where the limits will be more suitaide.

Bomber, a, three-year-old trotter by Quito Sure, attracted attention when he won the Tamaki Handicap, and, although beaten into fourth in tho Oak Handicap, registered the good time of -1-5. lie has not been successful since. Toeeetie, driven by F. Holmes, won the Grandstand Handicap and the Summer Handicap to collect i'l'JO. She won so well that good things were expected when she returned to Epsom in April, but she failed. Handed over to M. Stewart, Toeeetie again failed in flie Adams Memorial Cup and C. F.
