! TURF JOTTINGS TRACK AND STABLE GOSSIP W. Smart, who rode Mutable to victory in the Maiden Hurdles at Moonee Valley, has accepted an offer to ride in India for Mr. A. Higgins, and is expected to leave Melbourne this week. Smart is a son of ATr. \V. J. Smart, who owns and trains Mutable. Hot Shot, winner of the Penrose Hurdles at the Auckland winter meeting, is to contest the Pangitira Hurdles at Awnpuni on Saturday. Hot Shot impressed when lie won at KUerslie, and was also going well alongside U'haremariea when he fell at the last fence in the Panmure Hurdles. Half and Half, who made an impression at U'ingatui, is now on the injured list. After his win in the Greenfield Hurdles he was found to have received a deep gash on a foreleg, and in the circumstances iiis performance was a very game one indeed. In the meantime his programme is uncertain. Prince Rewa, who won the Rosobank Handicap at Avondale in April, paying nearly a century, was a shade unlucky to miss a place in the Waioeke Hack Handicap at Taurangn. After being very slow away, Prince Kewa finished on well for fourth, and he may not tie long in notching another win. Ilessketoon, who won the Orakau Hurdles at Te Awamutu last June, is engaged in the same race on Saturday. In seven starts this season Hessket.mn has been placed twice, finishing second to Dividend in the Remuera Hurdles, and third in the Campbell Hurdles to Dividend and Gold Spot at KUerslie this month. Flying Spy tried Co hang on to him, but. failed, and in the straight she forfeited second to Black Thread, who responded well under his hig weight, lint found the winner much too good.
