A RECORD YEAR PIG MARKETING ASSOCIATION (0.C.) HAMILTON, Tuesday One of the most successful 'years has been experienced by the Now Zealand co-operative Pig Marketing Association, Limited, according to a report of the association reviewing its last season's operations. In all departments of its activities the published figures record an expansion of business, the volume handled for the year being a record in all respects. Altogether the association marketed just over 110.000 pigs. 329,000 bobby calves and 4300 cull cattle, amounting to a total of 443,295 carcases with an aggregate hooks weight of 26,062,5101b, These figures represent an increase of 1776 pigs, 75,001 bobby calves and 1360 cull cattle. An increase of 9956 pigs was sent in by suppliers on consignment. A very large proportion of the total weight of pig meat handled was disposed of direct frtm the producer to the retail trade through its own subsidiary curing factories.. The association's' turnover stands at a record figure of £609,000, which, plus that of its subsidiaries, would exceed £BOO,OOO. During the season, over £474,203 has already been distributed to suppliers of pigs, bobby calves and cull cattle, and there is a net surplus available for final distribution to pig and cull cattla suppliers of £23,000, this amount being exclusive of share credits and other benefits on qualified supply. It is intended to distribute the surplus to suppliers toward the end of July. The association's subscribed capita! now stands at £36,746, an increase of £3,400 on the figure _ published _ last year, and paid up capital, £12,825. ail increase of £I7OO on last year's figure. ARGENTINE EXPORTS SOME HEAVY DECLINES (0.C.) WELLINGTON, Tuesday A shortage of shipping is having a substantial effect on the export of the principal products of the Argentine, whose experience has been somewhat similar to that of New Zealand. The official figures of Argentine exports for the first -three months of this vear disclose that exports -of lamb, which were 1,303,138 carcases in the first three months o£ 10-10, had dropped to 533,477, a decrease of 831,001 carcases. During the same period New Zealand was able to send away 038,877 lamb carcases, a decline of 302,313. ~ . , ~ Frozen beef shows a decline to less than half the total in the previous year's period, hut frozen mutton exports rose from 33,820 carcases to 71.130. Argentina s export of wheat and maize is less than half the usual, and linseed exports have dropped to 98,011 tons from -133,000 tons. A significant trend is shown in the doubling of canned meat export in this period to a total of 1,114,021 cases. New Zealand s export of canned and potted meats. in the. same three months was only 10,0i0cwt.
