HOME GUARD

Sir, —In recent appeal cases for service appearing in the papers appellants have been told to join the Home •Guard. This has opened up ft question which the public of New Zealand should take up. The Home Guard is a voluntarv organisation, until such time as trie Government makes it otherwise. As one of the pioneer members of the Home Guard in my district, we do not want these men in our ranks. They will onlv attend the necessary parades and lie of no benefit to their platoons. If tliev had the interest of the country at heart they would have joined the Home Guard as volunteers. Kither make the Home Guard compulsory or leave them out. Last War.
