I PATRIOTIC ACTIVITIES | LOUNGE FOR SOLDIERS' WIVES -At ;i special mooting of the Women's Service ..Movement held yesterday, Mrs. F. fl, Lorion was fleet eel chairman in place of .Miss Marv Wigley, who resigned to lake an appointment at the naval base. A party was hold in the organisation's rooms in the Victoria Insurance Buildings, Shortland Street, on Friday lor wives of men of the overseas forces. Mrs. Levien, convener of the servicemen's wives' committee, explained that the rooms were intended to he a rest and social rendezvous for the wives ami relatives of men on active service and were open daily from JO a.m. until 4 p.m. .Members of the movement carried out various kinds of patriotic work. When, for instance, the wife of n service man arrived in Auckland from some other centre to visit her husband and was accompanied by a child, members of the Women's Service .Movement were prepared to look alter the child for the week-end so that the mother's time would be free to he spent with her husband. Oilier members of the organisation looked after the darning of the socks of men at the Hobsonville Air Base. Mrs. W. Black lock, convener of the Lady Gnlway Guild, exhibited some of the work done by this circle and stated that about .SB 7 garments bad been made since September. The knitting circle had made 66 pairs of sea boot stockings from wool spun by members of the spinning circle, while over 600 other knitted garments had also boon made. A spinning demonstration was given by Mrs. R. K. Hargreaves, and tea was served by Mrs. Casey.
