SINKING OF SHIPS

REPORTED FIGURE TOO HIGH (0.C.) WELLINGTON, Wednesday

It. was .eported in a cable message received from Sydney that Mr. William Goodfellow, managing director of Amalgamated Dairies, Limited, had stated that <lO per cent of the ships carrying New Zealand dairy produce to England had been sunk. Although official figures are not available, it is stated in authoritative circles in Wellington that the percentage of sinkings reported to have been given by Mr. Goodfellow is n considerable exaggeration. Since the end of November the losses of ships actually engaged in the New Zealand trade has been very small compared with those 1 for the previous 12 months.
