MENINGITIS OUTBREAK
TWO DAYS FREE OF CASES (0.C.) WHANGARET, Wednesday No cases of spinal meningitis have been reported from the Bay of Islands district for over two days, and only one case sinco Friday. Although it is too early to form any definite conclusion, it appears that the precautions taken by the authorities have prevented a spread of the disease, as practically all cases have come from the restricted area of the Kawakawa and Moerewa districts. For the first time since May 4, Territorials in e,nnp at Whangarei were granted leave this evening. As a precautionary measure the camp was closed on account of the meningitis outbreak in the north. The army authorities have granted leave on the recommendation of the Health Department officials, as no case of the disease has been reported from the Whangarei district. The men are not to go north of Whangarei. The North Auckland regiment will not be mobilised to take part in the army manoeuvres at the end of this month. The regiment was to have been mobilised on Slay 24.
