IMPRESSMENT OF RIFLES
Sir,-—May 1 crave space in regard to titles being handed in to the Government P My husband and brothers own titles, and have done so for years. Our menfolk are in the Home Guard. We live on the west coast of Auckland, and should there be any threat of invasion our rifles could be put to much better use in the hands of the men who have been using them for years than in other hands. The invasion of our country, if it takes place, might come from our side of the island as well as from the east coast, so why not guard both sides, as they do in England? Especially as our men know the country from A to Z. Again, on most farms there comes a time when an animal falls sick or breaks a leg, and at such a time a farmer needs his rifle to put a suffering animal out of its misery. It is to be hoped that the Government's impressment scheme will not be applied without. due consideration. Common Sense.
