The Champion Cup: Original, by Avonne Rogers (10)

JpANSY wasn't a flower. She was n small jersey cow, but she did think she'd win the lovely Champion Cup at the Middleton Show. The cow over the fence was very good looking indeed, and one day Pansy got the chance to speak. "Are you going to the Middleton Show on Saturday?" sho asked. "I think so," the cow replied. "I'm going to win the Champion Cup," said Tansy, half-dreaming that she was at the show already. "How do you know?" the other cow ventured to ask. "Oh well, I've won lots of other prizes so that's how I know," Pansy replied. "Might I get a prize, do you think?" asked the cow next door.

"Oh, you won't get it. I will," Pansy haughtily answered, "I've got a lot belter tail than you have. "1 don't know about that," said the cow next door. "Don't he silly. Why you're jealous and you don't want me to win. You see if I don't come homo with that cup," jeered Pansy. At this the cow next door made for the water trough. "Ha! Ha!" laughed Pansy, "I'll win." At last the day of the show came and the cows were all talking. Pansy was standing by herself when suddenly the cow next door walked up to her. "How are you getting on?" she asked. "Do you still think you'll win the prize?'' es," replied Pansy. "Well you can't," the cow answered. "I know I will and for another thing I'll beat vou."

"Please don't boast," replied the cow. Very soon the cows were being judged and what a surprise they got when the cow next door was called up to receive the Champion Cup. Pansy almost shed some tears hut she had learnt her lesson and never again did anyone hoar her boast.
