HEAVY TAXATION

Si r< —Why is it that direct taxation on the man of modest means is so much heavier in New Zealand than in other parts of the Empire? In Canada, according to the latest cable news, a married man with no children earning £6OO a year will now pay £BO tax. In New Zealand he would lose £MO from the same income. In England after the last staggering Budget a married man with three children earning £.'500 a year pays approximately £0 in direct taxation, and the whole of this amount is returned to him after tho war. In New Zealand he would pay £.'!(), or four times as much. Add to this the much higher cost of living and you can understand why the average family man has so little faith in the Labour Government.
