MARRIED MEN
COMING ENROLMENT EXPECTED THIS MONTH STATEMENT BY MINISTER The enrolment of the second division under the National Service .Regulations is expected to bo carried out toward the end of this month, according to a statement made in March by the Minister of National Service, the Hon. R. Seniple, and repeated in Wellington yesterday. The second division consists ot all married men, with or without children, between the ages of 19 and 4.j, both inclusive, with a few exceptions which include Maoris, aliens, naturalised British subjects, and men wiio have been discharged from the armed forces as medically unfit alter overseas service. Air. Seiupie previously stated that the men who would be first called up lor sen ice would lie those with no children. Jle added that the first ballot was not expected to he held until toward the end of the year. It is considered in some quarters that this date may he about September, although it is not known whether it will be for overseas or territorial training. "Due notice will be given when married men are required to enrol," said Mr. Scmplo yesterday, "and it will then be necessary for every man of the second division to fill in an enrolment form, regardless of whether he is registered for social security purposes." Ihe Minister also referred to the lact that many men were under the impression that, provided they registered for social security purposes and were in possession of a levy hook, they were automatically registered under the National Service Kmergeney Regulations. Some contusion had probably arisen, said Mr. Seniple, through the fact that, when the regulations were first brought into operation last June, social security registration forms were used as a basis for compiling the initial ballot register, which consisted ol men of the first division only. This was only adopted as a matter of expediency, he said, and all subsequent enrolments were required to be furnished on form N.S.I, which was av a liable at all post offices. At present only members of the first division were enrolled, and, if a member of that division did not possess an enrolment certificate, the onus was on him to remedy the defect.
