MEDICAL BENEFITS
Sir,—.Mr. P. M. Curnow, in practically repeating what Mr. K. M. Algie has said, sheds little further understanding upon the matter. With Mr. Algie, he ignores the crucial issue of their arguments, namely, granting that, social security payments have been made and only partial benefits given, the money is still in the Treasury of a constitutionally-elected Government, held in trust, pending adjustment with the medicos, many holding New Zealand diplomas, gained at a State university. It. is sought to magnify a hitch in the proceedings (not the fault of the Government) into a crime. The suggested'.lack of skill of the general practitioner is wholly unwarranted. Few citizens, as suggested by Mr. Curnow. would willingly accept the obloquy of seeking free medical treatment. The above statements answer the three assertions at the foot of his letter. C. E. Major.
