OBITUARY

MR. JOHN PATERSON The death has occurred of .Mr. John Paterson, aged 70, a well-known resident of Ponsonhv. He was associated with the firm of Sargood, Son and Ewen until his retirement some years ago and was well known in shipping and business circles, lie was a leading tennis player in his younger days and founder of the original West End Club. Mr. Paterson was closelv associated with St. Stephen's Presbyterian Church, being treasurer and a member of the management board for many years. He was a great lover of flowers and specialised in raising carnations and daffodils. He was not married. MR. C. STEWART The death has occurred of Mr. Charles Stewart, aged 09, a former well-known resident of the Kaiwaka district, where he was born. His parents were among the early settlers. Mr. Stewart farmed a large holding in his native district until iiis retirement about 20 years ago, when ho came to Auckland. His wife died about ;10 years ago.
