MUNITION WORKERS
GOVERNMENT'S THANKS ADDRESS BY MINISTER The Government's appreciation of the manner in which they were performing a service of national importance was expressed yesterday to munition workers at the Colonial Ammunition Company's factory'by the Minister of Labour, the Hon. P. C. Webb. The Minister was welcomed by the general manager, Mr. J. C. Whitney, and addressed those employees working a shift at the time of his visit. "Before the Prime Minister. Mr. Eraser, left Auckland." said Mr. Webb. he asked me to make a point of visiting you and .thanking you for the manner in which you have responded lo the call made upon you. I have been informed that after the holidays 99 per cent of you returned at iime to work and that, production was normal on the first day you resumed. That is a wonderful effort." Mr Webb said the work being performed at the company's factory was as important, as tho task being carried out by the Navy, Army and Air Force. Workers of the company were setting a nigh standard of duty and the Government was grateful to them for their intensely important services. The Minister also conveyed his appreciation to the management, of the firm. Mr. Whitney thanked him on behalf of the company and staff. Later Mr. Webb visited a large new building which is being constructed to enable the company to increase its output. and expressed satisfaction with its progress. The new building adjoins tho company's works and is being built on what was formerly portion of "he Auckland gaol site.
