S.Ol 5.33 O.OS 0.30 GENERAL SITUATION The Government meteorologist advised last evening that a depression heated south of the South Island was passin'g slowly eastward. Pressure was high to the north and east of the North Island, while an anti-cyclone extended from southern Australia over the Tasman Sea. Forecast: Moderate to strong northerly to north-westerly winds at first about and north of Cook Strait; elsewhere fresh southerlies prevailing. and advancing to Taranaki and Hawke's Bay by Friday evening. Seas rather rough about Cook Strait; elsewhere slight or moderate, but later rising south of East Cape. Weather cool and unsettled over the South Island, with intermittent rain and drizzle. Cloudy and mild over the North Island, with intermittent rain gradually developing from the south and west.
