RANGITANE PASSENGER
"HIGH JUDICIAL OFFICER" NOT NEW ZEALAND JUDGE [by telegraph press association] WELLINGTON, Thursday In order to remove some current misconception, Mr. J. T. Paul, Director of Publicity, has issued the following statement: "Included in statements made to the press in Australia by survivors from ships which had fallen victims to oneniv raiders was one attributed to 'a high judicial officer who, because of his official capacity, would not allow his name to he published,' Ibis 'high judicial officer' was a passenger on the Rangitane. and it lias been assumed in some quarters that he was a member of the Judiciary of New Zealand. There was no .fudge of the Supreme Court, or magistrate, or officer of any lower Court of New Zealand on the ship when she was attacked. In view of the nature of the statements attributed to this officer, and the assumption that he was a person holding a position of standing in New Zealand, this explanation is deemed necessary."
