APPEAL BOARDS

OVERSEAS EALLOTS APPOINTMENTS ANNOUNCED MR. C. R. ORR WALKER'S POST [m~ telegraph—prkss association] WEI,LIXGTOX, Friflay The appointment of six Armed forces Appeal Boards under the national service emergency regulations to deal with appeals from reservists drawn in the ballot for overseas service and also with appeals on conscientious objection to service in either overseas or territorial armed forces, was announced to-day by the Minister ot National Service, the Hon. R. Seniple. Mr. Semple said that the 17 existing Manpower Committees would continue to deal with territorial service appeals lodged on other than conscientious grounds. As the Armed Forces Appeal Boards arc to be judicial bodies, the chairman in each case will be a stipendiary magistrate. Mr. Semple added that every effort had been made to appoint as members persons well known to the general public whose fairness and integrity could not he questioned. The No. 1 board will havo its headquarters at Auckland and will ha\e jurisdiction over the No. 1 and No. J military areas, comprising Northland and the Auckland district as far south as Pokeno. Mr. C. R. Orr Walker, SAL, will be chairman, and associated with him as members will be Mr. '1 . P. McCready and Mr. A. M. Samuel. Mr. H. K. Hewlett, of Whangarei, and Mr. J. O. Liddell, of Auckland, will be i deputy-members.

MR. C. R. ORR WALKER, S.M. Mr. S. L. Paterson, S.M., of Hamilton, will be chairman of the No. 2 Appeal Board, which will have its headquarters at Hamilton, and will have jurisdiction over the No. 2 and No. 4 military areas, comprising the Waikato. Thames. Rotorua. Bay of Plenty and Northern King Country districts. Associated with Mr. Paterson as members will be Mr. R. Coulter, of To Aroha, and Mr. A. E. Manning, of Hamilton. Mr 1). V. Bryant, of To Rapa, and Mr. .J. Neate. of Ngatea, will be deputy-members. Other appeal boards will be stationed at Wanganui, Wellington, Christeluuch and Dunedin.
