AMERICAN CONSUL
NEW OFFICER'S ARRIVAL Appointed to the American Consulate at Wellington, Mr. Robert English arrived by the .Mariposa yesterday, accompanied by his wife, who is the daughter of Mr. Joseph C. Grew, United States Ambassador to Japan, and their two children. Mr. English will probably act as Consul-General between the pending departure of the present Consul-General, Mr. Lowell C. Pinkerton, and the arrival of his successor, Mr. Wesley Frost, whose last, appointment was at Santiago, in Mexico.
MR. ROBERT ENGLISH Mr. English lias spent 14 years in his country's diplomatic service, and at various times lias been stationed at Algiers, Gibraltar, Istanbul, Bangkok, Budapest. Paris and Ottawa, where he was secretary of tlx© United States Legation. When he arrived yesterday he was welcomed by the United States Consul at Auckland, Mr. Joseph G. G roe 11 i tiger. Mr. English said he had not visited New Zealand before, but was looking; forward with pleasure to his period of service, in the Dominion. His country always hoped to have extremely close relations with New Zealand, and realised its importance very clearly.
