LADY TINKLE TAKES SPRINT VALERIAN WINS SECOND START BY ARCHER The W. G. Park Hurdles was won decisively by Lapidarian, who was a good second favourite to Bachelor King. Lapidarian was always one of the leaders and he stayed on solidly at the finish. Archco made the early running and then gave way to Lapidarian and High Star, with Bachelor King and Kaiwaka closest ol the others. High Star led into the straight from Lapidarian, who was clear of Laiwaka and Bachelor King. The inside panel of the last fence was levelled almost to the ground and when High Star dwelt Lapidarian came through to heat him by three lengths. Kaiwaka, without treatening danger, was a close third, ahead of General IJiske, General Ruse and Bachelor King. Kaiwaka and Bachelor King should improve. The little-fancied Mayfair attempted to win the Kihikihi Hack Handicap (rom end to end but she was headed jn the straight by Karatoki and Ngawiri. Karatoki was at a good price after his win at \\ hangarei and he demonstrated that lie is further improved bv winning handsomely. Karatoki was further back than fourth alter the field had settled down and he finished much too we t for the others. Xgawiri, always well placed, outstayed Mayfair. who showed a lot o pace, for second. Snrpai was a fair fourth, lotlowed bv Loch Acre and Star Yaal, I he eachwav favourite Radiant Vaals made a mo\c on' the outside at the turn, but failed to maintain the run. Tea Drop was prominent most of the way, but weakened in the straight Plate Run in Divisions The Waipa Plate was run in two divisions. Gay Rosette winning the first and Kinvara the'second. Both winners were well supported. Kinvara being the actual favourite and Gay Rosette third in demand. Ttoyal Sister began smartlv in the first division and she looked like winning when she came into the straight several lengths'dear, but she tired near the end and was beaten by a length by (.aj Rosette, who finished gamely. Miss Bridge battled on to be a moderate third, and bharmin was fourth, ahead of Diagonal and Beryl Vaals. Vaalsmac and Gay Wmow were the early leaders in the second division, but Kinvara and Empire Rose were in front at the turn Kinvara ran on the better to beat Empire Rose easily Vaalsmac was a poor third Nan Vaals was fourth, followed b.\ Gay Widow and Snow White. Kinvara may prove useful T . Th a each-wav favourite Beau Leon made a great effort to win the Te Awnmutu ( up. but he was decisivelv beaten by the moderates fancied Greek Queen, who did not come proininentlv into the picture until nearing the home turn. Bronze Moth and Valerian reached the front before leaving the straight and they were followed by Beau Leon, who went ut> on the inside of them about five •furlongs from home. Beau Leou was just in l r ""' entering the straight, but was soon headed by Greek Queen, who came strongly on the outside to beat him by a length and a-half. Cillas ran on solidly to be thrcc-ciiiarf-crs ol a length awav third and Lou Rosa was fourth, followed by Mini law. Valerian and Namara. Greek Queen relished the easy going and was well ridden by S. Waddell. Beau Leon had the run of the race, but, Gums had to cover a lot of ground. Lou Rosa, was alwavs handv, but was not dangerous m the straight. Minllaw, after getting a long way back early, made a fine run on the outside over the last few furlongs, but the effort was 100 great. Bronze Moth slopped quickly. Valerian showed up prominently to the turn and then failed Hack Cup Contest The Hack Gup was won in good style by the second favourite, Joau Peel, who had the run of the rare in behind the leader, te Haka, Joan Peel ran up alongside Te Haka at the home turn and she .always had his measure in the run home, eventually beating him by a neck. The favourite, Night. Pilot, who drew No. ttf at the barrier, ran gamely for third after being under pressure a good way from home. Wildore was fourth, followed bv Raepata and Mendelssohn. Joan Peel ran right up to her best form and Te Haka made a ' fine showing. Palmint. Gay Movie and Captain Bell fell. jumping out smartly from No. 1. the eachwav favourite Black Majesty attempted to lead throughout in the Ohaupo Hack Handicap. but he weakened in the last furlong and missed a place. Jn spite of the fad that he drew No. 15 at the barrier. Town Survey was handy at the turn behind the leaders, Black Majesty. Biddy Girl and Royal Pilot, and he finished attractively to win by a length from Forest Bridge, who also came horn? well. Royal Pilot battled on to be a head away third and Biddy Girl was fourth, ahead of Monte C'risto. Miss Ridicule and Fox wood. Black Majesty had every chance and Mysito rail only moderately. Monte Cristo was closer at the finish than at any other stage Third Win On End The leading jockey, W. J. Bronghton, scored his third win on end when he won the Flying Handicap on the top-weight. Lady Tinkle, who finished attractively. Saxon Tor showed brilliant speed to reach the front, quickly, but he gave way in the middle stages to Olympus, who came into the, straight just clear. It looked as if Olympus would win, but Lady Tinkle, handy at the turn, came strongly on the outside and beat him by a neck. Our Jean finished well to he a length away third and Sure Pay was fourth. Then followed Saxon Tor, Dinky l)i and Gay Seton. Saxon Tor failed to run on in the straight. Ol,vmous ran his best race for some time. Valerian had earlier run promineiillv to the turn in the Te Awamiitu Cup. after which lie weakened Valerian and Hunter's Night made Ho running. Valerian coming away in the straight to win decisively by a length and a-half from Lord Waitangi. who followed him round the turn. Town Scdion. always handy, buttled ou lor third, and Queen City was fourth, ahead of Erlick and Hunter's Niirhf. Valerian relished the soft, going and was always the winner in the straight. Cheval de Volee was never dangerous, hut he looked well and should be in capital order for (he Auckland Cup. FALLS ON FLAT HORSES AT TE AWAMUTU Several horses fell on the fiat at, the Waipa Racing Club's Summer Meeting at Te Awamutu on Saturday, when the track was a little greasy early as a result of rain after a dry spell Xatal, who was running second, and Mario's Choice fell near the turn in the first division of the Waipa Plate, and Palmint. Gay Movie and Captain Bell in the Hack Cup Handicap. Following the Hack Cup, the chief stipendiary steward, Mr. 0. Gomer questioned several of the leading riders regarding the stale of the track. The jockeys concerned stated the course was quite fit for racing, and that they were satisfied to continue riding. No falls occurred in the later racee, in which scratchings were fairly numerous.
