PRISON FOR MOTORIST
CHARGE OF INTOXICATION A charge of being intoxicated in charge of a motor car in Point Chevalier Road was admitted in the Police Court yesterday by Stuart David Soutter, salesman, aged 31. Sub-Inspector Cahvell said that at 11.20 p.m. on December 12 an accident Avas reported, and it was found that a motor-car bad collided with a telegraph pole and was badly smashed. There was a strong smell of liquor and traces of blood, but there were no occupants present. Three bottles of beer and one of wine wore in the car. After a search of the neighbourhood accused was found three-quarters of an hour later, and frankly admitted having been the driver. He was certified by a doctor as unfit to drive. "There is no doubt about accused's condition," said the magistrate. Mr. ■T. Morling. who imposed a sentence of seven days' imprisonment, and ordered accused's driving licence to be cancelled for 12 months. Stout. 5.M.,. for intoxication while in charge of a car. He was seen staggering about with a crank in his hand and later the car was found to have been moved.
