QUALITY OF MILK "If provision is not made under the regulations of the Sale of Food and Drugs Act for the sale of milk for babies, it is no concern of the Court," said .Mr. J, Morling, S.M., when Christopher M. Peek, milk vendor, was charged in the Police Court yesterday with selling milk containing less than the 3.20 per cent of fats required. Defendant pleaded guilty. Sub-Inspector Calwell said four samples of milk had been tested and found to bo below the requirements. Defendant said he had been supplying milk for Plunket babies for nearly 20 years. If the milk was too rich.,it was unsuitable for babies, and defendant therefore kepi a herd of low-test-ing cattle. There had been no complaints from those to whom it was supplied. except when defendant raised his milk test to I per cent, which was found to he too rich. Defendant added that the authorities had made no complaint concerning the milk which he sold to ordinary customers. "I will accept your explanation," said the magistrate, and defendant was fined c., ~n , MI( , charge and convicted and discharged on the others.
