BOXING CONTEST
STRICKLAND OPPOSES NEGRO An advertisement to-day draws the attention of intending patrons to bookings for the boxing contest at Palmerston Xorth on Boxing .ViKht between the Alabama Kid and Maurice Strickland. The former, an American negro, is ranked near the top of the world's light-heavy-weights, while Strickland is one of the best heavy-weights Xew Zealand has produced. The sates will open at G p.m. and the first amateur contest will commence at eight sharp. The Hutchinson-Cal-taux preliminary bout will commence at S.UO and will be followed immediately by the big contest—Strickland v. Alabama Kid.
