COAL GAS FOR MOTORS
AUSTRALIAN POSSIBILITIES [from our own correspondent] SYDNEY, Nov. 21 The Legislative Assembly discussed a proposal to appoint a Select Committee to inquire into the feasibility of the utilisation of high-pressure coal gas for the propulsion of motor vehicles, but no decision was reached. The deputy-leader of the Opposition, Mr. Baddeley, who moved that the committee be appointed, urged that itshould also inquire fully into any other method for the utilisation of coal for power that would assist the coalmining industry. Mr. Hawkins, Labour member for Newcastle, said that experts claimed that the oil content of coal in the Maitland district was the richest in the world.
