LONG RECORD OF SERVICE [BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION] WELLINGTON, Monday After 35 years' service, Mr. W. Donovan is retiring from the positions of director of the Dominion Laboratory and Dominion Analyst. A social function was attended last week by the Minister in charge of the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research,

the Hon. 1). G. McMillan, and a large number of members of various Government departments, with a full representation from the Dominion Laboratory. Dr. Marsdcn, secretary of the department, presided. On behalf of the Dominion Laboratory staff, Mr. R. L. Andrew made gift of a writing desk, and good wishes were conveyed by Dr. T. R. Ritchie. A tribute was paid to the work done by Mr. Donovan in many fields of research, notably those i" connection with fuel and mining problems.
