LIQUOR NEAR DANCES

Charges of being found in possession of liquor in the vicinity of a dance hall at Manurewa were brought against three young men, William and Thomas Kdward Hogau and Frederick Cleaver in Otahuhu Police Court yesterday. Senior-sergeant Daly said a constable found Thomas Hogan sitting in the rear seat of a car in a .state of intoxication. The other two defendants were seated in the front drinking beer. Seven large bottles of beer were found. "Fines do not seem to check these offences," remarked Mr. \Y. R. McKean, S.M., in im|K>sing fines of C I IHs and 12s costs. A similar charge was heard against William France. Evidence was given that eight bottles of beer were found in his car at Buekland's Beach on September 21. He was fined a similar amount.
