OTAHUHU WATERWORKS

The lack of adequate storage capacity at the Otahuhu waterworks was ydiscussed at the Otahuhu Borough Council meeting last night, when it was decided to appoint a third pumping engineer. At a previous meeting it was reported that the two engineers had been working long hours involving heavv expenditure in overtime pav. The Mayor. Mr. C. R. Petrie, M.P., said the works committee had investigated the position and recommended the appointment, of a third employee. Pumping through most of each day was unavoidable on account of the limited storage capacity and this was too large a call upon the time of two men. The question of additional reservoirs had been discussed at intervals over the past 10 years, but nothing had been done. The committee's recommendation was adonted and after consideration of applications, Mr. H. S. Rippon was appointed to the position.
