QUEEN CARNIVAL

WAIKATO CAMPAIGN CONCLUDING PROGRAMME [FROM OTTTt OWN CORRESPONDENT] HAMILTON, Sunday. The Waikato Queen carnival campaign for the raising of patriotic funds will conclude to-morrow evening when a gala will he held i" Victoria Street. One of the principal features will be a wheelharrow race conducted by the Hamilton Commercial Travellers' Committee. There are 27 entries. The Mayor, Mr. H. D. Caro, will be n, member of one of the teams competing, and among the spectators will he the Postmaster-Gen-eral. the Hon. P. C. Webb. Many stalls will be erected and numerous concert parties will assist. The amount raised to date in the Waikato exceeds £20,000, and it is expected that when the carnival closes at midnight to-morrow, this amount will bo at least doubled. Miss Nola Swnev, the Morrinsville queen, is in the lead with 247,421 votes, while Miss Men a Kav (To Awamutu) is second, Mrs. P. C. Johnstone (Raglan) is third, and Miss Sophie Ivy burn (Nurses') is fourth There was a- large attendance at the Hamilton Magistrate's Court on "Friday evening, when members of the Hamilton Law Society presented tlie breach of promise ease. Banlell v. Pickwick, in aid of the Hamilton Citizens' Queen, .Mrs. J. C. Taylor. All who took part were in period costumes, and the acting was of a high order and caused much aniiiscmcn (.
