WOOD COMPILES CENTURY Although the wickets at the Domain were in good order, there was again low scoring in the third series of matches in the first round of the Auckland City and Suburban Cricket Association s senior championship. A splendid recovery by the Royal .Air Force, which lost four wickets for 10 runs against R.V., was a feature of the principal game. The Air Force went on to compile 103. Its captain, C. G. Greitson, with 44, was largely responsible for stopping the rot. 1!.\., however, appears in a good position, as It made lo.'t for the loss of only one wicket. A (rood deal of interest was taken in the match between Manukau and (ireen Lane, two of the strongest teams. Manukau, after a_ good start by K. [lines, compiled 203. and (ireen Lane scored 57 for the loss oi one wicket. Rusk ill collapsed against Brixton and was all out for 51. K. Longville and F. Wood gave Brixton a fine start and at slumps the score was 'Jt4 for two wickets. The batting of the opening pair was the best seen this season. Against Dilworth " Old Boys. Tut compiled 120 in its first innings, and the former started badly, losing three wickets for 34 runs.
The highest individual score was that of F. Wood (Brixton), whose 124 not out against ! Uoskill was a feature of the play. Other! good scores were made by R. Longville (Brixton), ,s | ; I". 1 nnes (Manukau), US; 0. G. Oregson (Air Force), 41: C. Drury (Air Force), 37; W. Wilson (Manukau), 33. The best bowling average was that of ,T. Christohurch.—After a postponement the previous week, the Canterbury Cricket Association's competitions were continued when the sixth round was played. Good conditions prevailed, but the scoring was only fair. The leading team, Lancaster Park, was beaten by Old Collegians, while Army surprised by beating Harewood. Two centuries were scored. T. Kennedy making 112 not out in two hours against Harewood. He hit 17 fours. The other was made by C. (j. Hamilton, for Old Collegians against Lancaster Park. He batted for two and three-quarter hours, hitting eight fours. Scores:—Old Collegians, 200 for six declared (Hamilton 109) beat Lancaster Park, 137 (Mcßae 42; Williams three for 17. J. C.
