ANNUAL GATHERING VISIT TO BISHOPSCOURT "SLUMBER OF INDIFFERENCE" There was a large attendance on Saturday afternoon at the annual festival of the Auckland Diocesan Churchmen's Association, consisting of a special service in St. Mary's Cathedral, followed by afternoon tea in the grounds of Bishop, scon rt, where the members and visitors were the guests of Bishop and Mrs. Simkin. The service was conducted by Mr. A. E. H. Harrison, the lesson was read by Mr. C. W. Coles, and the annual address was given by the bishop, as president of the association. Bishop Simkin urged the men present to use their Christianity to influence their homes, their casual acquaintances and the wider sphere of the world in general. "There is evidence of the slumber of indifference in this diocese," he said, "and there is a call to every man to be definite. There are sins we must fight. It is fashionable to call sins by easy names, but the prevalent sins of drunkenness, the evil of abortion and the misuse of leisure time must be witnessed against." After the service members showed great interest in the bishop's historic house, which was built by Bishop Sehvyn more than 70 years ago. Replying to a vote of thanks, Bishop Simkin said he hoped that they would be his guests again in future, as it was his desire that his home should be a real centre of the diocese. During the afternoon 15 new members were enrolled, making a total of 314.
