OBITUARY
MRS. E. F. HOLDEN The death has occurred of Airs. Elizabeth Fordyee Holden, aged 79, widow of Captain William Holden, Airs. Holden was born in Scotland and came •to New Zealand with her husband ( who was n sea captain. 52 years ago. They farmed in the Stratford district, Taranaki, for about 12 years, and then returned Home, where Captain Holden followed a seafaring career again for 10 years in a vessel of his own. They (returned to New Zealand about 30 years ago and farmed nt Cambridge and then at Waiuku. Since the death of her husband, which occurred about. 20 years ago. Airs. Holden had lived with a daughter at Te Here and Opaheke. She is survived by a son and four daughters
MRS. A. LAING [from ouk own rotutkspondext] MAT A M ATA, Wed tlpsdn y TII6 death lias occurred in Hamilton of Mrs. Margaret Laing, aged 88, wife of Mr. Andrew Laing, of Strniford. Mrs. Laing was horn in Scotland and landed at Wellington in 1877._ Shortly .-ifter lier arrival she married and settled with her husband in the JRangitikoi. M\\ Laing built the first bridge over the Tongariro "River at tbe Southern entrance to Lake Taupo. Later Mr. and Mrs. Laing farmed in the Hawke's Bay district..Tho.v celebrated their diamond wedding at Stratford in 1937. Besides her husband. Mrs. Laing is survived by six daughters and one son. There are 24 grandchildren and b« greater andduldreiu.
