CHINESE OFFENSIVE BLOWS AT JAPANESE INDO-CHINA OPERATIONS By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright LONDON, Nov. 7 The Chinese who have occupied districts in Kwangsi Province recently evacuated by the Japanese report that spirited fighting has taken place around Yamchow, near the Kwangtung sea-coast, where Japanese, troops were embarking on a transport. . .. , It is claimed that a Chinese detachment entered Yamchow City, engaging the Japanese in street fighting. Meanwhile a strong Chinese column readied a point south of Yamchow, threatening the rear of the Japanese, who are now holding out at Yamchow. Chinese forces have reoccupied Chengnankwan, on the French Indo-China border. The Japanese are rushing reinforcements to the border and heavy fighting is progressing. An authorised statement, issued in Bangkok (Thailand), accuses the French of 33 aircraft violations 011 the frontier since April, in spite of repeated protests. A warning is given that if this continues "both parties will come to grief." ' ■ '
AMERICAN SUPPORT CHINESE GRATIFIED RE-ELECTION OF PRESIDENT CHUNGKING, Nov. 7 The Chinese Foreign Minister, Mr. Wang Chuiig-lnii, said the Chinese people were gratified at Mr? Roosevelt's re-election, which showed that the American people endorsed his firm stand against aggression, both in strengthening America's national defence and in rendering assistance to nations who were lighting for their liberty and independence. The Chinese deeply appreciated what President Roosevelt had done for the cause for which China was fighting. CHINESE COURTS CONCESSION AT SHANGHAI FRANCO-JAPANESE ACTION (Received November S, 11.55 p.m.) SHANGHAI, Nov. 8 The Japanese are apparently on the verge of taking over control of the Chungking-controlled second special district court and the third Jviang.su high court which are situated in the French Concession. The Nanking regime recently appointed judges to take over the benches. ' Both the Japanese and the French refused to make a statement. However, the courts are under a heavy French guard, including _ six armoured cars, other military units and plain clothes police. The French arrested a German Jewish refugee news photographer who was trying to cover the story on behalf of an American newspaper, the Shanghai Evening Post.
