Nov. 7 Britain has completed arrangements for the construction of 120 freighters at a cost of £20,000,000, says the Washington correspondent of the New York Times. ' The ships will be manufactured piecemeal all over America and will be assembled on the West Coast at the rate of one a week. They will be 300 ft. in length, with engines of 25,000 horse-power and a speed of 18 knots. si

Britain is also negotiating for the purchase of an additional 63 cargo vessels from the Maritime Commission and between 80 and 100 from private owners.

A message from Washington says that the head of the British Purchasing Mission, Mr. Arthur Purvis, announced after a conference with President Roosevelt, that he would fly to Britain shortly. Doubtless he will bring more orders for defence materials.
