BOMB SHRAPNEL WOUNDS
CAPTAIN FOSTER'S CAREER LONG PERIOD OF SERVICE [from our own correspondent] HAMILTON, Friday The first New Zealand officer to be wounded in Egypt in- the present war is Captain William John Foster, E.D., of Te Akatea, Ngaruawahia, who was hit by shrapnel from an air bomb on •October 31. Captain Foster was born at Te Akatea, Ngaruawahia, 49 years ago. He joined the volunteers when 17 years of age, and has had .33 years' military service.
At the outbreak of the Great War Captain Foster enlisted and went overseas with the Main Body, serving on Gallipoli, in Egypt and in Palestine. He was wounded in Egypt, and was invalided to England, where he remained until the Armistice was signed. After the Great War, Captain Foster was engaged in, farming at Te Akatea. He retained an active interest in the Waikato Mounted Rifles, in which he served as a major. On the outbreak of the present war he joined up with the Divisional Cavalry of the first echelon, and was granted the rank of captain. SERGEANT MISSING BELIEVED TO BE KILLED [BY TELEGRAPH —I'RKSS ASSOCIATION] WELLINGTON, Friday The following air casualty was announced to-night: — Sergeant Stuart Hayden Mac Donald, Royal New Zealand Air Force, missing, believed killed, on air operations. His father is Mr. J. R. Mac Donald, 31 Shirley Street, Karori, Wellington, and his wife is Mrs. E. Mac Donald, 218 Main Road, Karori.
