GIFT OF RACEHORSE
SOUTH AFRICAN WAR FUNDS NEW ZEALAND OWNER A splendid gift to the war funds of South Africa was made recently by a New Zcalander who for some years has made his home in Johannesburg. He is Mr. Moss Moses, who has been prominently identified with racing in the Union for a long period. The gift was a four-year-old racehorse, Empire Exhibition. which was put up for sale by auction and realised £1650.
The proceeds are to lie devoted to three war funds, including a comforts' fund for the. Anzac Company which lias been formed in Johannesburg and is now serving with the Rand Light Infantry. A meeting was called in Johannesburg recently of New Zealanders and Australians, and enlistments were received and the company formed. .It is anticipated that about £SOO will be available lor the benefit of these men, as well as for other New Zealanders and Australians who are serving with the South African forces. Mr. Moses is a native of Hokitika. West Coast. As a boy lie was associated with the late Mr. Henry Redwood, and subsequently Mr. Moses rode as a lightweight jockey in the stable of the Hon. J. D. Ormond, of Hawke's Bay.
