PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH
PROGRESS IN DOMINION Many satisfactory increases are shown in the annual report of statistics of the Presbyterian Church of New Zealand, to bo presented to the General Assembly of the Church at Palmerston North next . week. "Those who claim that the church is a spent force," states the report, "may have food for thought in this year's figures, which show that the organism still grows, and. in fact, claims more members and adherents and greater income than ever previously, not only at home but also abroad.
' Churches, persons under pastoral care, attendance at worship, communicant members, and baptisms have never been so numerous; while missionary giving makes actually a record. The total giving to all purposes of tho Church is the highest ever recorded. Debt has not been so low for over 20 yea rs.'' The number of persons under pastoral care, the greatest yet, is 225.404. The attendance of 84.231 at public worship is also a record. Youth work statistics make it apparent that tho attendance at Sunday schools 3ias declined at a far greater rate than that at public schools. The decline from 1927 to 1938 was 6.7 per cent for public schools and 17.5 per cent for Sunday schools.
