THE POWER OF ARREST [by tet.egrapii —PRESS association] WELLINGTON, Thursday An amendment to the Public Safety Emergency Regulations published with to-night's Gazette gives the police power to arrest persons found distributing or in possession of subversive literature or documents pending the approval of the Attorney-General to further proceedings. Hitherto the police were able to arrest such offenders only after the Attorney-General's sanction had been received.
