PHOTOGRAPHIC EXHIBITION APPEAL FOR PUBLIC SUPPORT Sinoo mothers Auckland wcro invited a month ngn to forward photographic entries for the "Beautilill Plilllket Ihtliv Competition." which is about to ln> launched by the Plunket Society, 901) photographs have heen received. They will be exhibited front next Thursday until Friday. November 1, in Milne and Olioyr-e's children's department, when penny votes will be sold in aid of the society's work for mothers and babies.

The exhibition will be opened by the Mayoress, l.ady Davis, and the public .should find much interest in the photographs and the popularity vote competition in the eight separate classes. I lie voting will he recorded twice daily in the show windows in Queen Street, hut no surnames will he used, babies being identified by their Christian names and numbers. .Most entries were received in the class for babies two vents of age.

The competition will be conducted 011 the lines of a similar one held five years ago, when JL'nOO was raised. It is again the hope of the society that a generous response will he forthcoming to assist it, in raising the L'oOOO necessary to carry 011 its work for the year. "The soeielv is urgently in need of funds," said the president, Mrs. ,1. C. Allan, last night. "We realise there has been a steady call 011 the people Unpatriotic purposes, hut we are hoping tliev will recognise that the society can undertake no more patriotic work than looking after the wives and babies of soldiers while they are absent. We cannot atford to increase the nursing stall at. present, hut wo propose to extend the work if the competition is successful."
