ESCAPE FEOM GUARDS
WAIKERIA INSTITUTE POLICE PARTIES SEARCHING [by telegraph —OWN correspondent] HAMILTON, Friday A prisoner at the Waikeria Borstal Institute, Leo Douglas Morpeth, escaped from the guards at lunch ti.no to-day. Running along the'access road to the institute, he disappeared along the Korakanui road, which leads into Te A wainut u, and had not been found at a lata hour to-night. Police parties are still searching, and all roads loading out of the district are guarded. The escaped man is thought to be hiding somewhere near the road. He is aged 28, is about Oft. Oin. in height, has a dark complexion, grey eyes and flat nose, and was wearing prison clothes. Morpeth was sentenced at tlio August sessions of the Supreme Court in Auckland on five charges. On a charge of assault he received a sentence of 12 months' imprisonment with hard labour, and on charges of theft and forgery. 12 months' reformative detention.
