AUCKLAND-BORN COUPLE

MR. AND MRS. JOHN GEORGE

Probably tlio oldest living Now Zea-land-born married couple, Mr. and Mrs. John George, of George Terrace, Onehunga, will celebrate the 68th anniversary of their wedding to-day. Both were born in Wvndhnm Street, Auckland, Air. Georgo 9.5 years ago. and Mrs. George nine years later. They have lived most of their lives at Onehunga.

The couple's first meeting -was on the Thames goldfields. They vera married nt the Church of the Assumption. Onehunga, in 1872 by the late Kev. Father Paul.

Mr. George's parents reached Auckland in 1842, and occupied the only house then standing in Wyndham Street. In 1847, when Onehunga was first settled, his father opened one of the first hotels in tlio township. Except for a period which lie spent farming at To Arolia, Mr. George has lived ill the district ever since.

Both Mr. and Mrs. Georgo are in good health considering their advanced years. Mrs. Georgo has recently made a remarkable recovery from a severe illness, while her husband, although his sight lias failed, retains his other faculties. Of their family of three sons and three daughters all aro living, with the exception of one son killed in the Great War.
