OBITUARY

MR. E. RICHARDSON [BY TKr.EOBAJ'H—-OWN CORKKSPONDENT] OISBORNE, Friday Tlio death lias occurred of Tr. Edward Richardson, aged 85, iho first settler in the Motu district. Mr. Kiciiarfison was born in Selliy. Yorkshire, and educated at Ack worth College, and was married in England. Me came to New Zealand in 188.'}, and took up land in the Wainiata Valley in the following year. Later he sold liis interests there to his father, the late Mr. William I!. Richardson, and selected a property in the .Motu Valley, when land there was opened up for settlement in 'IBB7. He continued to farm his property until J929. when he disposed of his interests to his son, Mr. (J. W. Richardson. Ho continued to reside there, however, until shortly before his death. He was a member of the Cook County Council for one term just prior to the formation of the Waikohu County as a separata area, when he represented the Motu riding. He is survived by live sons. MR. A. W. VINCENT [l'lto.u OUR OWN CORRKSI'ONDKNtI rUTAHURU, Friday The death has occurred in Hamilton of Mr. Arthur William Vincent, aged 79, a pioneer settler of the Putaruru district. Mr. Vincent was born in Australia and oamo to New Zealand with his parents when he was less than one year old. In his youth he was engaged in contracting work and first came to this district when he assisted in the building of bridges on the railway line between Morrinsville and Rotorua. He went to tho South Island and returned in 191.'} ryid took up farming at Lichfield. Putaruru. Mr. Vincent is survived by one son and two daughters. MRS. EDITH M. HAULTAIN The death hus occurred at Whangarei of Mrs. Edith Mary 1! a tilt ain aged 77, widow of the late Mr. Philip C. Haultain, a son of the late Colonel T. M. Haultain, of Auckland. Mrs. Haultain was a daughter of the Into Mr. S. S. field, and was born at Cliristciiurch in the early days of the Canterbury settlement. She took up residence in North Auckland about 2.~> years ago. Mrs. Haultain took a keen interest in the work of -the Anglican Church. She is-aiixrivod by. a. daughter-and. a eon.
