NAVAL FUNERAL

LIEUTENANT J. STEPHENSON FULL HONOURS ACCORDED The funeral of the late Lieutenant J. B. Stephenson. R.X.Y.R., of H.M.S. Achilles, and formerly of Wellington, who died in Auckland on Thursday, took place at the Waikumete Cemetery yesterday afternoon with full naval honours. A naval party consisting of L'o officers and 100 ratings, including a Marine hand, was drawn up near the cemetery entrance when the cortege arrived. The coflin, covered with the Union Jack, was carried by bluejackets between the ranks of a large firing party, which lined the driveway with arms reversed. The Rev. G. M. McKenzio, chaplain, R.N.V.K., preceded it. and the rest of the party followed, the band playing Chopin's "Marchc Funebre." After the service at the grave, which was in a plot set apart for the Navy, three volleys were fired, and the firing party presented arms before marching oil. '

Relatives and a number of civilian friends of Lieutenant Stephenson attended the funeral. The wreaths were carried from the hearse to the graveside by a group of bluejackets.
