SEVERAL RECORDS BROKEN Tho Auckland provincial weight-liftinij championships were held before a large tendance at tho Central weiffb-lifting gymnasium, Hall of Commerce Chambers. Th« British Empire heavy-weight champion. Harold Cleghorn, broke all his existing Australian and New Zealand records on tno Olympic set of lifts as follows /new records in " parentheses):—Two hands military press, 070V,1b (273 l /-lb); two hands snatch, 2flG/ ? lp (2081b1; two hands clean and jerk. S42 /2 lb fQ.tqyibl • total. SOO^lh. K. Banks, New Zealand bantam-weight champion, broke his own record of 1/51b on the two hands clean and Jerk Tilth C. Tucker. light-heavy-wels;ht, broke his iwu right hand bent press record of ISOlb % .th a ' fine lift of 200ib. beinor the first maTn in New Zealand to lift 2001b overhead with one hand. This lift constitutes a record for lieht-hcavv and heavy-weight. L. Innaer established a New Zealand light-weight record on the right hand swing straight arm with 95 3 ilb. The referee was Mr. J. "Elliott, who was assisted by Messrs. L. Wilson (Auckland) and S. "Wilder (Christchnrch) as ludges. Following are the Auckland provincial amateur champions for 1040:--Bantam. K. Banks; feather, C. McDonald; light A. Sykesi middle, L. McDonald; light-heavy H K. Young; heavy, H. Cleghorn. All the champions and second ptacfvgetters qua lfted for inclusion in the Auckland team which ;is to compete in the fifth New Zealand championship tournament at Wanganul during Labour week-end.
