TE KAWITI IMPRESSES QUEEN CITY BEST HALF-MILE MAXAM AND ABERDOVEY PLEASE Pleasing performances by To Kawiti and Queen City were witnessed at Tnkanini \esterdny morning, when the middle grass, with the poles out 20ft:.. provided excellent going. The pair will compete at Paeroa on Monday, and others with engagements there who went well were (iold Money Song. Max am and Gnv miss.
Te Kawiti (L. C. Brown) galloped very impressively to finish a mile a length rlrnr of Valamito (McTavish) in 1.17. Te Kawiti has not raced since winning the Jellicoe Handicap and he looks very bright. Gold Money Song (Messervy) beat Venture (Smith) over five furlongs by two lengths in 1.4, and he has improved Fog interfered with visibility early in tho morning, but among Ihose who appeared to gallop well at this time were Flood Tide, over SQven furlongs, Prrud Fox, over half a mile, Cambria (McTavish) and Koute March (Jackson), three furlongs. The best half-mile, in 50 2-ss, was credited to Queen City (L. C. Brown), and she has recovered quickly from her, recent injury.
Arvakur Improving Orclio (Smith) and Arvakur (McMinn) were associated over five furlongs, the last four occupying 51 .'i-.ls. Orelio's margin being narrower than in their best previous trial. Arvakur is improving. Gaymiss (Parsons) strode over five furlongs comfortably, the last four taking .Vj a-ss. She appeals in the Flying Handicap at Paeroa. Maxam (Mclnally) and Aherdovey (Spinley) ran (heir half-mile in ."Is, both going nicely. Maxam is a speedy beginner who should be well suited by the Paeroa track. Heroic Star (L. C. Brown) and Princess Nassau (Quedlcy) were sent four furlongs from a barrier start, the former beginning smartly to maintain a three lengths advantage throughout in 5; is. There was little between Kcronn (Mclnally) and Payelto (Spinley) in ,VJ 0-ss, both working well. Valimecn (Brown), who is in fine order, worked keenly over a round, averaging a little better than 15s fo the furlong Manuroa (Qtiedle.v) beat. Eagle Hawk (Beguely) at the end of three furlongs in 3!ls. Kawariki (Cleaver) and Minko (Beguely) recording the same time, without being bustled. Full Hand Beats Cornish Full Hand (Smith) was doing it much better than Cornish (MrMinn) lo register 1.1 a-5 for five furlongs. M.vsito (Jackson) and Simula (McTavish) took 1.5 1-5, the former showing improvement. Palustre (W'alters) hit out. nicely in 1.0, and she should tie ready at short notice. Silver Quex (Messervy) and The Dozer (Gray) completed five furlongs together in 1 ..■"> 'J-3. and they could have done better. Silver Quex looks particularly bright. Other gallops were:—
