HANNA MUG MATCH TITIRANGI CLUB'S SUCCESS G. WILLIAMS DEFEATS J. YOUNG MY TUB HOVER The return teams match between the Auckland and Titirnngi Golf Clubs was played during the week-end in almost ideal conditions. The seniors played at Middlemore and tlio juniors at Titirnngi, both courses being in excellent order. In the first match for the Hanna Mug, which was held in April, the Auckland senior team failed to win one game, and, although tho junior,s had the advantage, Titirnngi retained the trophy by 20 matches to 11. Tho Titirnngi senior team was defeated on Saturday, but its juniors were too strong, and the contest finished in favour of the holders of the Mug by a margin of 11 games. The visitors to Middlemore were troubled by the p;u:e of the greens, which, although in good order, were very slow compared with their own. Tho leading pair, J. H. doling and G. W. S. Williams, hud an interesting ■match, the latter winning on the last green. There was nothing between tho pair at the turn and Young unexpectedly took the lead at tile 10th. lie was bunkered from his teeshot, but recovered well to obtain a three, it is 'opponent three-putting to lose the holeYoung became '2 up at the 11th, but Williams got one back following a brilliant iron to within 'Jft. of the pin at the next. After hooking his second to the Kith green, Young recovered well, but missed ii four-footer for tho half. Bunker trouble cost Young the next hole and neither player obtained a lour at the last. Although the figures wore not particularly good, both young players gave a fine exhibition of shot production at a number ot holes. Williams was more impressive in the morning four-ball and he holed a good putt on the last green for the match. 11. D. Urinsden, who played well in the morning, was not available for the singles and Ins place was taken by It. M. George. However, George was out of touch, as lie has played little golf for a considerable time. His ■opponent, E. L. Bartleet, established an earlv lead and was never seriously troubled. The long-hitting li. 15. Carr scored a win for the visitors, R. A. Wilson being not so dcadlv on the greens as usual. 15. 1. L'i>cock went down to A. K. Browne, but H. L Robson plaved well to defeat \\ . A. Donalu on tho last green. Donald finished rather weakly. A. X. Young had a solid round to account for AY. X. Abbott, who is experiencing difficulty with his game at present C. N. Jacobsen and H. Plutnley both established useful leads in the early stages of their games with their respective opponents, C. S. 'O. Woods and C. Galloway, and both won fairly comfortably. F. \\. Lucas J. \. Lano and M. Bush were winners for the visitors, while It. W. Christiansen was defeated by J. I'. Aldrctl.

C. C. EWEN PROMINENT VICTORY IN BOGEY EVENT Thero were some good performances in club competitions on Saturday. The outstanding player at Maungakiekie was C. C. hvu'ii, who played one of the best rounds of his career to win the senior bogey event with a card of 3 up. A vigorous hitter, the winner is capable of fine golf, and bis failure to be more often in the limelight is probably due to the fact that he does not take the game as seriously as the average player, r.wen has much natural ability and with regular tuition should qualify for a very low mark. .1. D. Shanlv again played excellently, his card of 1 up being the next best effort or the day. Within the past few weeks Shanly. 11. Roy and J. E. Stedrtian have been placed on a two handicap. They have thoroughly reserved this distinction, as each has had a number of gross rounds better than t lie scratch score of 7"2. In the qualifying rounds for the junior match-play event at Middlemore a few players iiad one good round on the day. H. \v. Hotson, who It'll— the field, and S. B. Morris each had a gross S3 to his credit, the latter winning the 3<i holes net medal after tieing with Hot son. The winner had an excellent inward half of 38 in the morning, while, apart from a lapse over the first nine, llotson plaved well all day. He met R. O. Gardner in the first round of match-play and was unexpectedly defeated by a fair margin. There were no great surprises in the second round for the senior championship at Otahuhu. although the defeat of J. Carde by D W Yerrall was r.ot altogether expected. W B Eustaco accounted for his brother and •\ 'R. Jonrs and H. W. Bell each won comfortably. The semi-finals promise to be very interesting. „ ... An excellent, round of <4 enabled B. I. Laycock to win a Stablcfor.ll event at Ji irangi, his total points being .IS. H. H.irdj plaved to handicap and C. T. Robinson scored well. In the qualifying rounds for the scratch match-play event at North Short, \\. Wheeler led the field by no fewer than 1-! strokes. Wheeler's rounds of 7-_> and .5 represented very fine golf and he should figure prominently in the match-play.
