And they. believed him until, as he tab in an inn one day, strange sounds came from . the bandage. The young man unwound it, and produced an egg from which the chicken was aboutto emerge. And was his face red! Amid the laughter of his friends, he sheepishly explained that a fortuneteller had told him if ho hatched out a chicken in this way the bird Would lead him to a hidden hoard of gold among the mountains. Unfortunately the chick died, and the derision of the other villagers prevented his trying the experiment again.
