WHANGAREI NOTES

To assist in the fund for the purchase of a fighter aeroplane 011 behalf of Northland, the Kensington Croquet Club arranged a bridge afternoon. The winners were Mrs. Allen and Mrs. J. Bisset, the prizes being presented by the club president, Mrs. J. Courtney. Competitions were also held during the afternoon, and as a result £7 was collected. The Whangarei staff of the Post and Telegraph Department organised a dance for patriotic funds, when the many novelty dances on the programme made the evening go with a swing.

At Whangaruru a dance for patriotic funds was held, when over £32 was raised.

The Kamo women's emergency corps held a community afternoon, which proved most successful both socially and financially.
